Salad

A salad is generally a mixture of uncooked vegetables, often lettuce or tomato. Other foods such as pasta, cooked potatoes, rice, croutons, meat (e.g. bacon) or fish (e.g. tuna) are sometimes added to salads. Sometimes dandelion leaves can be used as well.

Salad is often served with a dressing. Examples include vinaigrette, Ranch dressing, French dressing, and mayonnaise.

Types of green salad:

  • Caesar
  • Mesclun
  • Niçoise
  • Chef salad
  • Italian salad
  • Greek salad

Some salads are made with things other than fresh vegetables:
  • Potato salad
  • Eggs salad
  • Macaroni salad
  • Waldorf salad -- apples, celery, walnuts and a creamy dressing
  • fruit salad -- sliced, peeled fruits served in their own juices or with a dressing.
