Ride cymbal

A type of cymbal that is a standard part of most drum kits. When struck, it makes a sustained, shimmering sound rather than the short, sharp sound of a crash cymbal. The size of the cymbal varies between roughly 18" and 22" in diameter, with a larger cymbal having a drier, shorter sound.

In rock or jazz, the ride cymbal is often struck regularly as part of the standard accompaniment pattern to the song. Often the drummer will vary between the same pattern either on the hi-hat cymbal or the ride cymbal.
