The Parazoa are an ancestral subkingdom of the animals, literally translated as 'beside the animals.' Parazoans differ from their choanoflagellate ancestors in that they are macroscopic and have differentiated cellss, but unlike "true animals" (Metazoa), they do not have tissuess.
