Mental function
Mental functionscognitive processesterms often used interchangeably (although not always correctly so,term
cognitive tendshave specific implications - see
cognitivecognitivism)mean such functions or processes as
perception,
introspection,
memory,
imagination,
conception,
belief,
reasoning,
volition,
emotion--in other words, alldifferent things that we can doour minds. A specific instanceengaging incognitive process is
mental event. The eventperceiving City Hall is,course, different fromentire process, or faculty,perception--one's abilityperceive things. In other words,instanceperceivingdifferent fromability that makespossible.
