Melun

Melun (population 37,000) isFrench city onriver Seine. It ispréfecture (administrative capital) ofSeine-et-Marne département.

History

On February 26, 999 Josselin I De Melun's grandson Manasses supported by Eudes, CountChartres andmayorMelun took control claimingimportant river castlevillage. They did not holdlong. King Robert, alongBouchardHerve, laid siege999forcedthose fighting against hereditary rightspaytheir lives. The mayorEudes were hangedmany others, but thereno further mentionManasses.

Robert, monkSaint Remy de Reims,his history ofHoly Land, Book 4, wrote thathouseMelun came from royal origins*. He gathered** "titlesmonuments"that great house, intended forgenealogical history more complete than could be given here. The firstthat ancient house, whose memorypreserved topresent day, is..."
