Melchora Aquino
Melchora Aquino (January 6,1812-March 2,1919) wasFilipino revolutionary who became known as "Tadang Sora" ("Tandang"derived fromTagalog word matanda, which means old)Philippines history because she was already old whenPhilippine Revolution broke out1896. She had never goneschoolvery littleknown about her parents, save thatwere poorhardworking people.She operatedstoreher native country,her business becamerefuge forsickwounded revolutionaries, whomold lady fed, treatedencouraged motherly adviceprayers. Secret meetings ofKatipuneros (revolutionaries) were also held at her house. Thus, she was aptly called"Mother ofKatipunan" or revolution. WhenSpaniards learned about her activities, she was arresteddeported toMarianas Islands.
AfterUnited States took control ofPhilippines1898, Aquino, like other exiles, returnedlive there until her death atage107.
