Megadethan American heavy metal band formed1983,disbanded2002

Shortly after lead guitarist Dave Mustaine was fired from Metallica duedrug usepersonality conflicts, Mustainebassist David Ellefson formed Megadeth. Mustaine becameband's singerprimary lyricist as well as playing guitar. The band soon added drummer Lee Rashtemporary guitarist Slayer's Kerry King. Latersame year, Rash was replaced by Gar Samuelson,Chris Poland took overKing.

In late 1984,were signedCombat Records,in May 1985released their first album, entitled Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good. In November 1986released their second album, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying. Latersame year Megadeth signedCapitol Records, who also boughtrightsPeace Sells... from Combat.

Gar SamuelsonChris Poland were fired fromband aftertourHawaii. Replacements were Chuck Behler (drums)Jeff Young (guitars).

In March 1988 Megadeth released their next album, So Far So Good... So What?. In 1989lineup changed yet again, asnew members Jeff YoungChuck Behler were fired. In Julysame year, Chuck Behler was replaced by Nick Menza on drums,Marty Friedman took over Jeff Young's role.

In 1990 Megadeth released their fourth album, entitled RustPeace, regarded by many Speed metal-fans as one ofmost technically fulfilledexciting speed-metal albumsall time.

In July 1992, Megadeth releasedalbum Countdown To Extinction. It became an instant hit, reached #2 onBillboard album charts,went multiplatinum. The following album, Youthanasia was delivered1994,it also becamegreat success.

Their next album, entitled Cryptic Writings was released1997. This album had more pop influences thanprevious ones, but its sound was still unmistakably Megadeth's. Nick Menza leftband1998,was replaced by Jimmy DeGrasso.

The pop influences were even more evident onfollowing album, 1999's Risk. Shortly after its release, Marty Friedman leftband,was replaced by Al Pitrelli. Risk was notsuccesswere hopingwould be. Looking forwayend their contractCapitol Records,releasedgreatest-hits collection entitled Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years (2000). This compilation included two new tracks thatwere contractually obligedgiveCapitol.

In 2001 Megadeth signeddealSanctuary Records. Shortly thereafter,put outnew album, entitled The World Needs A Hero, on which most ofpop sound oftwo previous albums was eliminated.

On April 3, 2002, Mustaine announced inpress release that he was leavingband, officially duean injury that caused nerve damagehis left arm. The remaining members decideddissolve Megadeth asresult. This markedend ofband's nearly twenty-year career.
