Mega (symbol M) isSI prefix inSI systemunits denotingfactor10⁶, ie one million; 1,000,000.

The prefixsometimes appliednon-standard ways:

• one megaton (a unit often usedmeasuringpowernuclear weapons)1,000,000 tons. The metric tonne1,000 kg, so itin fact this unit that should be calledmegagram.
• computing:
  • A megabyte1,048,576 (2²⁰) bytes. The prefix mebi has been suggested as an alternative.
  • A megabit1,048,576 (2²⁰) bits. I.e. Megabit/s.
