A wave which needsmediumorderpropagate itself. Sound waves, waves inSlinky,water wavesall examplesthis. Sound waves need air moleculesorderexist;Slinky waves needSlinky, andwaves inocean needwater.

It follows, then, that mechanical waves cannot exist invacuum. This isfactor that distinguishes them from electromagnetic waves.
