Manicure
A manicure is a beauty treatment for fingernails and hands. A manicure can treat just the hands or nails or both. A manicurist can provide various services for nails, such as the application of artificial nails such as tipss, acrylicss and gelss. A manicurist can also apply treatments to real nails, such as filing and polishing.A standard manicure usually includes filing and shaping of the nails and the application of polish. Some specialty manicures, such as the French Manicure, may also be offered. Treatments for hands usually include soaking in a softening substance and application of lotion.

Common manicure tools
- Nail polish
- Nail polish remover
- Cuticle clippers
- Cuticle scissors
- Cuticle remover cream
- Emeryboards
- Orangewood stick
- Hand lotion
- Finger bath
- Finger brush
- Cotton
- Barbi towels (2)
- Sanitizer/ Barbicide
- Metal or plastic container that will hold your sanitizing implements
- Trash can
How to prepare
- Sanitize your table
- Place 2 barbi towels laying across from each other, leave some excess towel on your side of the table hanging down.
- Place your metal implements in the container with the Barbicide.
- All other tools needed (orange wood sticks, cotton, etc.) on your side of the table on the barbi towels.
- Make sure your table is nice and neat.
Steps
- Begin by consulting with your client asking them what they would desire
- Sanitize your hands
- Apply sanitizer to the customers hands
- Remove any polish from the customers nails with the cotton between your first and middle finger
- File nails to desired length with the emery boards, or metal file
- Shape nails with emery board, start at corner of nail and go in towards the middle of the nail, do not go back and forward
- Apply cuticle remover around the outer part of the nail
- Take your cuticle pusher out of the barbicide (dry off with the excess towel you have hanging before you touch client) begin pushing their cuticles down, do not scrape nail, gently go along the cuticle
- Place one hand in the finger bath so cuticles can soak and will be easier to clip off
- Make sure you put the cuticle pusher back in the barbicide
- Remove your cuticle clippers and begin clipping cuticles, try and get the hole cuticel off in one piece
- Dip one hand in the finger bath and dip your finger brush in the bath, hold customers hands over the bath and gently brush the finger nails down
- Apply finger nail polish is desired (base coats, color, top coat)
- Allow nails to dry
- After you have done both of their hands up to this point, you will begin the massage precedures
Massage Precedures
- Remove all the customers jewelry and push their sleeves up if they are wearing sweaters or long sleeves.
- Stretch their arm across the table comfortably.
- Apply 5 dots up the arm with massage cream
- Rub some massage cream on your hands and begin working in the lotion into the customers arms.
- Use rotary movements beginning at the elbow going down towards the wrist. Slide up the arm. Repeat 3 Xs. Flip arm and repeat on the other side.
- Wring arm going up, slide down arm; repeat 3 Xs. Flip arm; repeat 3 Xs.
- Hack arm up and down arm both sides; 3 Xs.
- Criss cross around both sides of wrist
- Place customer's arm upright, elbow on the table hold hands, and teeter totter your and customers hands/wrist 3 X's
- Begin at the top of the wrist and use rotary motions going down the thumb and pinkie then go back to wrist, then rotate down next two fingers. Then repeat movements down middle finger. Pinch each finger tip as you slide off the finger
- One finger at a time rotate and flex each finger
- Make sure all the lotion is rubbed in all the way
