Main-gaucheIn fencing, the main-gauche was a dagger used in the off-hand, mainly to assist in parrying. It is rarely used today, as it was discovered that fencing with only the primary weapon allowed for greater balance and a stance offering a smaller target area. Its name is taken from the French language, literally meaning "left hand". |
