Long

In finance, to go long is to buy a product such as shares, holding them for a period of time and selling them again, in the hope that their value will have risen in the process.

The term is generally used in contrast with short selling and hedging.

In computing the word long is often used as a short-hand description for the long integer datatype, particularly when used to declare a variable of this type (for example in the C programming language).
