This makesfamily7th largest known. New speciesstill being discovered.Common genera include Gnaphosa, Drassodes, Micaria, Cesonia, Zelotesmany others. Generally, ground spiderscharacterized by having barrel-shaped anterior spinnerets thatone spinneret diameter apart. The main exceptionthis rulefound inant-mimicking genus Micaria. Another characteristican indentation inendites (paired mouthparts anteriorlateral tolabium, or lip). All ground spiders lackprey-capture webgenerally run prey down onsurface.
At present, no ground spidersknownbe seriously venomoushumans. Very few people even notice these nearly worldwide reddish, brown, gray, striped or black spiders.
