Grey matter iscategorynervous tissuemany nerve cell bodiesfew myelinated axons.

Grey matter looks reddish gray onfreshly removed brain. It formssuperficial parts ofbrain anddeep parts ofspinal cord. Itcomposed ofbodies ofnerve cells (neuron) andinitial partsits processes (axonsdendrites) just emerging fromneurons. Gray matter ismajor part ofnervous systemwhichnerve impulsesall kindsmental functionsproducedthen sent awaybe carriedtheir target organs by white matter.

The cerebrum andsubcortical nuclei, such asputamen andcaudate,composedgrey matter.

Generally, gray matter can be understood asparts ofbrain responsibleinformation processing; whereas, white matterresponsibleinformation transmission.

Notbe confuseddark matter (matter that doesn't emit light).
