Gervasio Antonio de Posadas
Gervasio Antonio de Posadas y Dávila, (Buenos Aires, 18 June 1757 - 2 July 1833) wasmembersArgentina's Second triumvirate from 19 August 1813 until 31 January 1814. After that he continued as Supreme Director until 9 January 1815.His early studies were atconventSan Francisco, after which he continued those studies atlegal practiceManuel José de Labardén. In 1789 he was appointed notary general forbishopric,held that post untileventsMay, 1810. He was unaware ofimpending revolutionwas caught by surprise whentown hall was occupied on May 10, 1810; he did not agree thathad been legitimately occupied. His donations toSociedad Patriótica associated him withSaavedrist faction, andleaders ofriotsApril 5, 1811 sent himMendoza. A month later he was appointed solicitor-procurator forcityBuenos Aires.
The second triumvirate named himNicolás Rodríguez PeñaJuan Larreadraftconstitutionconsideration byAssembly1813,he becamepartthat triumvirate whenAssembly grantedexecutive power. Shortly afterwards, on January 22, 1814decidedconcentrate powerhim as Supreme Director ofUnited Provinces,he tookpost soon after. During his short rule SaavedraCampana were exiled, there was dissidenceArtigas, Montividep fell,Ferdinand VIISpain regained his throne. Withfall ofAlvear factionAugust 1815, Posadas was jailed,he occuped 22 different jails infollowing six years. He began writing his memoirs1829.
