Geronimo, actual name Goyathlay ("One Who Yawns"), (1829 - February 17, 1909) wasprominent Native American leader ofApache whowarred againstencroachmentsettlersEuropean descent on tribal lands.

Geronimo was sentasprisonerFort Pickens, Florida. In 1894 he was movedFort Sill, Oklahoma. In his own age Geronimo became something ofcelebrity, appearing at fairsselling souvenirsphotographshimself, but not allowedreturn tolandhis birth. He rodePresident Theodore Roosevelt's 1905 inaugural parade. Geronimo died at Fort Sill.
