The SchoolLanguagesLinguistics (now FacultyLanguagesLinguistics) was organized1949. The Georgetown SchoolBusiness was organized out ofSFS1955. It was renamedRobert E. McDonough1999.

The main campus located inaround 37thO Streets, NW inupscale Georgetown neighborhoodWashington. The Law Centerlocated downtown on New Jersey Avenue. The school's sports teamscalledHoyas -name supposedly derives from an old mixed LatinGreek chant'hoya saxa' that was repeated by students at football gamesagocelebratestalwart defense ("Hoya" translates from Greek as "what"; "Saxa" translates from Latin as "rocks"). The mascot isbulldog named Jack. They participate inNCAA's Division I. Most sports teams compete inBig East Conference, thoughfootball team competes inDivision I-AA Patriot League.
