Gene Wolfe

Gene Wolfe (born May 7, 1931)an American science fiction writer. Henotedhis dense, allusion-rich prose as well asstrong influencehis Catholic faith, which he adoptedmarryingCatholic. He isprolific short story writer as well asnovelist,has been nominated forHugo Award, Nebula Award,World Fantasy Award multiple times.

His best-knownbest-regarded work ismulti-volume work The Book ofNew Sun,work set indistant future Earth detailinglifeSeverian, an apprentice torturer, as he ultimately becomesmessiah. The workcomposed ofnovels The Shadow ofTorturer (1980), The Claw ofConciliator (1981), The Sword ofLictor (1982),Citadel ofAutarch (1983). A subsequent coda, The Urth ofNew Sun (1987) wrapped up some loose ends butgenerally consideredseparate work.

In1990s, Wolfe published two more works insame universe as The Book ofNew Sun. The first, The Book ofLong Sun, consists ofnovels NightsideLong Sun (1993), Lake ofLong Sun (1994), Calde ofLong Sun (1994),Exodus FromLong Sun (1996). These books cover political intriguerevolution ongeneration starship sent from Urthcolonisedistant planet. Wolfe subsequently wrote The Book ofShort Sun, whichcomposedOn Blue's Waters (1999), In Green's Jungles (2000)Return toWhorl (2001),deals withcolonists who have arrived onplanets BlueGreen. These three works, The Book ofNew Sun, The Book ofLong Sun,The Book ofShort Sun form an oeuvre often calledSolar Cycle.

Although notbest-selling author, Wolfeextremely highly regarded by criticsfellow writers,considered by manybe one ofbest living science fiction authors. His fans regard himconsiderable dedication,one Internet mailing list dedicatedhis works has amassed six yearsthousandspagesdiscussionexplication. The writers Neil GaimanPatrick O'Leary have both credited Wolfeinspiration.
