An Ecosphere is a glass, self-contained ecosystem sold primarily as a gift. They include tiny shrimp, algae, gravel, decorative shells and gorgonia. The average lifespan of the ecosphere is two years but some live up to 18 years. Ecospheres use resources in a way that avoids contaminating their environment meaning their is little maintenance involved in keeping one.
