Coprocessor

A coprocessor is a chip used to supplement the functions of the primary computer's processor. For example, the Intel 80386 microprocessor used an optional "math" coprocessor to calculate floating point operations via hardware. Sometimes the CPU is made of coprocessors, instead of a single processor chip. This was the case of the Nintendo 64 console. Today is rare to see a coprocessor in computer architecture.
