Bogdan Filov

Bogdan Filov (1883 - 1945) was a powerful politician in Bulgaria during World War II. As an ally of King Boris III, he became prime minister of Bulgaria in 1940. During his time as prime minister Bulgaria became a member of the Axis Powers, though Boris and Filov tried to keep Bulgaria as much out of the wars of Adolf Hitler as possible. Filov was prime minister until shortly after Boris's death in 1943. He then became a member of the council of regency which was set up because the new king, Simeon II was underage. The council was dissolved when they agreed to an armistice with the Soviet Union in 1944 and a new government was set up which quickly became dominated by the communists. Filov and most of the other members of the former council of regency were executed in 1945.
